Build Confidence (and more!) with Dynamic Movement

Updated: Dec 4, 2023

For so long I thought that dynamic movement was only reserved for competitive athletes, but dynamic movement truly gives you the skills to move more freely through life. And who doesn't want that? At the end of the day, exercise should really help us live our lives to the fullest!

1. It improves coordination and balance which is crucial for the longevity of our muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones as we age. Not only that, but it's also going to promote longevity in your brain! Dynamic movements often require quick thinking and problem solving, so it's basically the exercise equivalent of doing a Sudoku puzzle!

2. It builds a resilient and responsive pelvic floor so you can feel supported in your everyday activities, even through pregnancy and postpartum. Our deep core and pelvic floor muscles need to be able to react and adapt to the loads and movements we place upon them, and especially as a new parent, you don't always know what's going to happen next!

3. It builds new skills that carry over into so many activities you do outside your workouts, which means you have endless possibilities for new adventures! You could travel, try a new sport, explore the local nature spots (maybe even the hard-to-reach ones), or play on a fun new playground with your kids or grandkids.

4. It builds variability so that your body is ready for whatever life throws at you, whether that’s a muddy trail full of big winding tree roots or a curb you didn’t see while walking with your arms full of groceries. If you're one of those 1-trip grocery-carriers like I try to be, one trip on a curb could be nasty business- but not if your body is ready for it!

5. It builds trust in your body and your abilities, which will empower you physically and mentally in all facets of your life. This is where confidence come from: practicing challenging things regularly, making progress, then seeing and feeling the improvements when they inevitably come.

Just like with anything else, dynamic training isn't an all-or-nothing thing. You don't have to be the best or start with the hardest thing. Start small, get consistent, then build on that a little bit at a time.
